The hurting still hurts.
The pain is still present. Yet Jesus tells us, as He told the storm, “Quiet. Be still.” In the Greek the word ‘quiet’ is siopao – “to be silent, to hold’s one peace. A hush…” In my mind’s eye I see a squirming baby, squalling, refusing to be comforted. Then I see that same baby picked up by a loving mother, cradling him hard against her chest, willing him to listen to her steady, rhythmic heartbeat, and with a gentle rocking motion, she whispers in his ear, “Hush, little baby…”
Be still in His presence. Be at peace from the thrashing and let God hold you tight. Hear His heartbeat for you. Know His heart bled for you. In the midst of your storm, hear Him closely whisper, “Hush, my child…”
Jesus is in the boat with you. Thank Him for that today.
“Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you.
I’ve called your name. You’re mine.
When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you.
When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down
When you’re between a rock and a hard place,
It won’t be a dead end–
Because I am GOD, your personal God…” Isaiah 43:1-3 The Message
