“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
It’s funny how the word believe is all over the place this time of year. It is on buses, store ad campaigns and magazine covers. At a large department store in our area the advertisements say “Believe in the Magic of Christmas”. What is the magic? Is it the twinkle in a child’s eye on Christmas morning, the shimmer of the lights and trees, the love expressed from loved ones near and far? Is it the special sale where you just secured half off plus another 30% on top of that?
Christmas is a beautiful holiday but let us not forget what Christmas represents and the gift being given in the form of the invitation to Come to Jesus for all we need, all we hope for and all that hurts our hearts. Yes, Christmas is about Jesus. Jesus is about redemption, love and strength.
Jesus, the Christ child, has invited us to lay everything on HIM. It is His joy to strengthen us for today, it is His love that gives us security and hope to face life. Many of us never take him up on his offer, we open the invite and are glad we were included, but never actually show up at his door.
I am not speaking to those who don’t yet know him, but to Christian women. Women who know how the invitation reads, tell others all about it, but never show up at the party. Friend, each day is a celebration, a party if you will. Each day holds priceless lessons, joys, triumphs and yes hardships that shape us. The difference between us and those who don’t believe is that we have an advocate, a divine counselor and a Mighty God to bring our every care to. We have the Prince of Peace who longs to teach us His way. But sadly many of us keep shopping for a better deal!
When you get an invite you most likely look at your calendar then RSVP. Today take a look at your life ( your internal calendar) is it crowded with too much? Is it forgetting what is really important? Is it filled with insecurity and fears? Is it trying to be perfect and polished?
Pause and remember, reflect and thank God that HE “gets you”. He understands you and your needs. He knows what needs to be done as you and I count down Christmas as women with lists. Yet, He wants to take us through this day, in His Presence, wherever we might find ourselves…work, baking, school, party, mall….wherever, He has extended the invitation to advance towards Him and give him everything so we can watch Him provide all we need for today’s party of life.
