The month of July was incredible. It wasn’t a good month because circumstances were perfect but it became an amazing month because my mind was focused on the truths of God’s love for me–one day at a time. I found myself confronting another layer that needed healing. Like bricks on a wall, the old insecurities and fears are removed one by one, as Jesus himself sets us free. I am proof that choosing to set our mind on truth, changes our attitude, our outlook and our uplook! The women in the 30 days of focus are proof that acknowledging there is a problem, makes way for surrendering the problem to God for healing.
During the month of August, we used the book Deeper: Living in the Reality of God’s Love, as our daily reading. In addition each woman received a daily devotional in her inbox and most participated in a private Facebook group. Deeper addresses three key things:
- Get Real With God
- Go Back to the Basics
- Get Set for Living Differently
In order to get real we have to come out of hiding, addressing our fears.
When I began doing these 30 day challenges with women I had no idea how much they would affect me. Naturally I know I need the challenges just as much as anyone, but little did I know that waking up each morning with an immediate goal in mind would bring a focus and joy to my own life far beyond what I could have imagined. During these challenges I wake up and pray over the participant list, most are women whom I have never met. The subscribers are women from all over the world. These are women God knows and loves. These are women that Christ died for and longs to lead into a place of spiritual abundance as they meditate on the truths of Scripture, internalizing, praying the truth and practicing believing the truth.
Now that I am done with the challenges for awhile, I will be on this blog site. To start out the month of August, I wanted to share with you the last post I sent to the Deeper Challenge Ladies, on July 31, 2015:
“The Lord will perfect all that concerns me” Psalm 138:8
I have enjoyed being with you each day this month. Yes, I know I haven’t really been with you face to face but I have been with heart to heart. I have also been in prayer for each of you, not knowing you or your circumstances but knowing that God knows. He hears and is answering my prayer for your heart to be drawn closer to him on your journey of faith. It’s a sacred journey, this faith walk. Sacred meaning set apart—your live, my life—have been set apart for God’s purposes. As we close I am reminded of these words in Deeper:
“I know God can do great things in your life and mine. I know that he not only can but wants to. I also know that as you embrace the truth of who you are, your life will change.” Deeper page 212
I end the book a little sappy and admit I am even more sappy now after going through it for these past 30 days with you all. It’s been seven years since Deeper was written and published, and much has happened in those seven years. God has proven himself faithful over and over. Our children have all married and are having children of their own. I have become a grandmother, and the first little boy named me GiGi and it’s stuck—so GiGi I am! With four grandchildren in two years I am on a new learning curve and this everyday vessel is pouring out each week loving on toddlers, changing diapers and praying for new little people in my world.
As of this week, I am now officially a two year breast cancer survivor—reaching for that five year mark! Since writing Deeper I transitioned four years ago from church ministry to doing para-church ministry through Design4Living Ministries—writing, speaking, mentoring women, doing 30 day challenges :), planning conferences, seminars and spiritual life retreats. If your women’s group needs a speaker or would like to host an event, contact me. My husband and I also do blended family and marriage speaking/retreats.
That leads me to something I said in the last chapter of Deeper:
“I don’t want to be known as an author, a speaker, a director of women’s ministries, or a singer—I don’t even want to be known just as a mother, friend or wife. No, I want to be known as a follower of Christ, a woman simply belonging to him. And in this identity, in this position, I can live with passion and freedom unlike anything I have ever known. In this place it’s no longer about me. It’s about a bigger, grander picture, and a big loving God who created us with purpose.” Deeper page 211
So as I close I risk sounding like a broken record but these are the facts:
- The God who made you—Knows you
- The God who knows you—Protects you
- The God who protects you—Made you, forming you in the womb, every detail of you
- The God who formed you—Values each person he made—and that includes you!
You ARE significant because HIS signature is on your life!
Hug the facts friends! Embrace the truth and let it make a difference in your mind. Tell yourself the truth over and over, through hard times and weak moments, bring your thoughts back to the truth. Learn to live by faith over feelings, as you give you feelings to God and learn to stand strong in His feelings of love and commitment towards you.
Some have asked about my other books so here goes:

Beyond the Brady Bunch—help and hope for step families. This book includes a chapter called “ The other side” and it’s our adult children answering questions so adults can understand what it is like to be a child in these families ( worth the price of the book!)
Deeper Audio book is just about finished…stay tuned for a link to purchase that.
(I am called and committed to write and produce resources for spiritual growth, so please don’t think I am doing a sales pitch 🙂 No, I am just letting you know what God has given me to offer women for spiritual growth!)
In two weeks my husband and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! We will renew our vows on a tropical beach with our children as our guests. In blended families it’s counted in dog years so that’s 175 years! As I try to write my vows to him I get choked up….it always starts with…when you met me I was a very broken woman, I believed I was unloveable and unwanted.…then I just can’t finish. God has certainly been good, our life together has been hard, blessed and everything in between—and in it all, God has been with us, shaping, growing, changing us.
